National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Kharagpur

[ Blood Donation in Emergency : Registration Form Link ] This is 150th birth anniversary of Vivekananda, the inspiration for all of us. At national level, NSS is carrying out special drive to generate awareness on life and teachings of Vivekananda. We at IIT Kharagpur decided to conduct first an intra-school competition with award giving function at school level. The topic would be from or on Vivekananda's life or message appropriate for age group. The function will also give an opportunity to delve deeper. We have 16 primary school or Sarva Shiksha Kendra (SSK) and 3 high schools in neighbouring villages / slums taken care of by our student volunteers.  We wanted to follow up this with an inter-school competition to be held on April 06, 2013 at Gargi, Maitreyee Halls and Kalidas Auditorium of the institute. [  Blood Donation in Emergency :  Registration Form Link  ] [  Updated with more pictures  ] The blood donation camp was organized on Saturday, 16th March, at BC Roy Technology Hospital, with the help of Sub Division Hospital, Kharagpur. It began at around 10 am and continued up to 1 pm, with a steady stream of donors throughout. The corridor of the first floor of the hospital was abuzz with young KGPians chatting with each other, happy to be able to play their part in lending a helping hand to people in the region. One of the rooms was utilized for a thorough medical check-up of potential donors, as well as the donation itself, while another there was another hall was where donors could lie down and recuperate for a while before they leave venue. They were provided with glucose water and food including biscuits, a banana and a cake. It was great to see more people than pre-registration numbers turning up in the venue. [ Blood Donation Camp of 16th March, 2013 :  Registration Link  and necessary information in our  previous post . ] In this post, we present the activities taken up by Pariapara Village Unit (UNIT 5) of NSS, IIT Kharagpur. We present their journey through pictures. First, the survey of drinking water condition and issues faced by villagers: The student volunteers then interacted with School of Water Resources of IIT Kharagpur for solution of the problems observed by them. While that takes some time to take a concrete shape, water filter was provided to village primary school. Here are few pictures. Student volunteers continued to work with village school children in encouraging and helping them in study. They also cleaned the village school play ground.
