Beginning of New Academic Session

Advisory Committee Meeting of NSS, IIT Kharagpur was held today (08.7.2013), chaired by Prof. S. K. Som, Director, IIT Kharagpur. It was attended by Prof. A. N. Samanta, Dean, UGS, IIT Kharagpur; Prof. N. R. Mandal, Dean, SA, IIT Kharagpur; Mr. P. K. Patnaik, Youth Officer and Regional Head of NSS; Mr. N. Jana, Secretary, Midnapore Welfare Society and District Coordinator of "Save Child" movement, representatives from NSS faculty members and student volunteers. Annual report and audited account statements of last year was presented. Action plan for coming year was discussed with valuable inputs from advisory committee members. Mr. P. K. New Academic Session Begins

NSS, IIT Kharagpur extends warm welcome to all new students in the campus. We eagerly look forward to work with new batch of NSS volunteers who are joining the NSS team. Here, we report briefly two important events of July, 2012. [Our new hosting for blog posts - Link ] Advisory Committee Meeting NSS activities at IIT Kharagpur is aligned with academic session. We had our Advisory Committee Meeting at Board Room on July 18, 2012 chaired by our Director. We had in the meeting among others, the Regional Head of NSS from Kolkata; Secretary of Midnapur Welfare Society; Dean, Undergraduate Studies; Dean, Student Affairs; Assistant Registrar, Accounts; Coordinator, Extra Academic Activity; NSS student members and Program Officers. Participation in State Advisory Committee Meeting

The State Level NSS Advisory Committee Meeting was held on 3rd November, 2011 at Conference Hall of Bikash Bhavan, Salt Lake, Kolkata. This was chaired by Honourable Higher Education Minister of the State, Mr. Bratya Basu. Mr. Satish Kumar Sawhney, Deputy Program Adviser, NSS came from Delhi. Vice Chancellors of various universities like Calcutta University, BESU, West Bengal State University, Sidhu Kanhu Birsa University etc. participated in the discussion. NSS, IIT Kharagpur was represented by the Program Coordinator. Dr. A. N. Dey, State Liaison Officer, West Bengal presented an overall picture of NSS activities in the state of West Bengal and issues to be addressed. Honourable Minister wished to see practical outcome from NSS engagement that goes beyond abstract philosophy. This followed a discussion on how to strengthen NSS activity in the state. Advisory Committee Meeting

The vacation is almost over. The activities will go full stream in a few weeks. We are eager to welcome new batch of NSS volunteers. At IIT Kharagpur, NSS is not mandatory after 2nd year. We wish a hearty farewell to this batch. However, we welcome their participation in NSS activities in remaining years too and they will be treated as NSS volunteers only. This will help in maintaining continuity and guiding new batches. Though it was vacation time, we were happy to have student volunteers in the Advisory Committee Meeting held at Board Room of IIT Kharagpur on 7th July, 2011 and was chaired by our Director. Amongst other dignitaries S.D.O., Kharagpur and Program Adviser from Regional Head Quarter of NSS at Kolkata were present. It appears that there is a convergence on working on a model village from NSS, IIT Kharagpur; representative of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mdnapore; District Admin.; other NGOs.
