National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Kharagpur

Day 6 continued the road building work. Watering and leveling the murram that we laid were two of the major activities. Often the source of water was quite far. We used relay system to carry the water. Two pictures in this post shows how this was being done in one location. The second half was devoted to 'joy of giving'. Clothes and useful articles collected from IIT Kharagpur campus community was distributed to the needy at camp site. We have some pictures of that in this post.

This update is based on the report and document submitted by student Group Leader of UNIT 7. This team had the responsibility of conducting Phase-II of the cloth distribution. IIT Kharagpur campus community came forward in huge number and donated used clothes for the needy of our neighbourhood villages. NSS volunteers, mostly from UNIT 3 and UNIT 10 paid house-to-house visit and collected clothes soon after Durga Puja, 2012 festival break. The first phase of the cloth distribution was conducted on 5th December, 2012. A short report of that with pictures can be found here ( Link ). The second phase of the cloth distribution was conducted on 19th January, 2013 in Gangadharpur Primary School premises. This time clothes were distributed to a total of 183 registered persons and their family members drawn from  Gangadharpur, Shyamraipur, Debigoria, and Lachna  villages. This is in continuation of three previous posts ( Link1 , Link2 , Link3 ) describing activities undertaken in seven day long Annual Camp of NSS, IIT Kharagpur. On the concluding day, we distributed old but usable clothes collected from IIT Kharagpur campus community, to needy of nearby villages. Total 177 persons registered themselves in the cloth distribution camp and collected clothes for themselves and their family. They came from nearby villages namely, Gholgharia, Ayodhyagarh, Shalboni, Gangadharpur, Kuchalachati, Balarampur, Puranagar, Bolla, Kashijora, Shyamraipur. In this series, we present few pictures of cloth sorting and cloth distribution. We had registration counter for distribution. One camp group was employed for sorting work and three groups helped in distribution. The other groups continued with their physical work.
