While the quantum of work completed so far by the volunteers during the annual camp in 2016 has been impressive, roadwork were at virtual standstill at Dakshin Banpatna (Units 10, 13, 14 and 15), Library (Unit 11), Raipur (Units 7and 8) and Khelar (Units 5 and 6) - obsession of these units with street play ( nukkad ) performance kept them from extending their roads or improve the quality of their roadwork.  Watering and compaction of road fill continued at Raghunathpur (Units 2 and 4) and Seva Dal (Units 1 and 3) and fill (moorum) placement and culvert construction at Purba Shikarpari (Units 9 and 12).  Unit 3 got a water body adjacent to their place of work cleaned up and dug a composting pit as well.  The locals generally praised the efforts of NSS volunteers.  Two such feedback are shared with this post. Cleanliness ( swachhta ) of the localities and public facilities adopted by NSS - IIT Kharagpur has remained one of their key commitments over the past several years.  While all 15 units of NSS - IIT Kharagpur works on cleanliness, a few interesting initiatives related to cleanliness since the last monsoon are shared here.    Unit 10: Unit 13: Every Saturday, the Unit 13 clean up the litters from the Primary School ground and disposes of the garbage. An attempt by Unit 13 to install a garbage bin as to address the issue was not deemed workable by the locals, who figured the bin could be stolen.   The unit also cleans up garbage-clogged nullahs (gullies) of Kashijora.   An awareness drive was launched to request the locals not to dispose garbage in the nullahs.   Although recent survey of the same area shows reappearance of garbage in the nullah, garbage quantity is somewhat less than before.  Unit 8: A survey was...

Day 4 of NSS, IIT Kharagpur Annual Camp at Balarampur village under Changual gram panchayat continued the road building work. Local people continued to help us. It has been a great experience where doing work together in a team with fellow friends is more of a fun. It is also an ennobling experience. In the second half, we had Nukkad (street play) performed by different units on social awareness theme. Here are few pictures and videos that capture certain moments of the day.
