National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Kharagpur

NSS wants to thank the IIT Kharagpur community for participating wholeheartedly in the TSG-NSS Blood Donation Camp of November 19, 2016 at the Old Badminton Court of Technology Students Gymkhana.  In the event 58 units of blood were collected by Ashok Laboratory Centre for Transfusion Medicine and Clinical Research, Kolkata.  The event was facilitated by Blood Connect, Kolkata.  The camp would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Ayush Gurjar, G-Sec, Sports and Games, Technology Students Gymkhana of IIT Kharagpur, in particular, and others including Spandana Sinna, also a G-Sec (S&G) of TSG and volunteers of NSS, several NSS officials and staff. 

TSG and NSS organizing a Blood Donation Camp on November 19, 2016 from 10:30a at the Old Badminton Court of Technology Students Gymkhana.  NSS requests everyone to participate in the camp and make it successful.  Those intending to donate are requested to send an email or a text message to Ayush Gurjar (ayushgurjar121@gmail.com, 09933954184), G-Sec, Sports and Games, TSG, IIT Kharagpur mentioning blood group, body weight, height and intended time of visit to the venue.

The vocational training program being organized by NSS – IIT Kharagpur with funding from Society for Self-employment of Unemployed Youth, Kolkata is continuing at villages around IIT Kharagpur.   Six such programs listed below have already been completed.   The seventh one is nearing completion as well at Purba Sikarpari, some 3 km farther south of Benapur, a village adopted by Unit 7.   More than 215 unemployed young men and women have benefited from the program so far.   A few of the trainees have already started their own business on tailoring, plumbing, 2-3 wheeler repair and mobile repair. Cleanliness ( swachhta ) of the localities and public facilities adopted by NSS - IIT Kharagpur has remained one of their key commitments over the past several years.  While all 15 units of NSS - IIT Kharagpur works on cleanliness, a few interesting initiatives related to cleanliness since the last monsoon are shared here.    Unit 10: Unit 13: Every Saturday, the Unit 13 clean up the litters from the Primary School ground and disposes of the garbage. An attempt by Unit 13 to install a garbage bin as to address the issue was not deemed workable by the locals, who figured the bin could be stolen.   The unit also cleans up garbage-clogged nullahs (gullies) of Kashijora.   An awareness drive was launched to request the locals not to dispose garbage in the nullahs.   Although recent survey of the same area shows reappearance of garbage in the nullah, garbage quantity is somewhat less than before.  Unit 8: A survey was...
