Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at IIT Kharagpur

On 11th October, 2014, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started at IIT Kharagpur. The 2nd October, nation wide launch coincided with Autumn Break here. Hence, the first available Extra Academic Day (EAA) after reopening of the institute was selected for the launch. There was a sensitization effort through a series of institute mails prior to this. Besides NSS and NCC, the Civil Works and Sanitary Dept. played an important role in the launch of the Abhiyan.

The program started with a short address by Director, IIT Kharagpur where he reminded all the adage, "Cleanliness is next to godliness." He also told that this Abhiyan is more than symbolic and we need to have sustained effort to reach the goal of a 'Swachh Bharat'. In spite of bad weather, there was a huge turnout and everybody was eager to participate in the program. Students came with beautiful posters and banners befitting to the occasion.

First, our Director took up the cleaning act by himself and this was followed by other faculty and staff members. Student members divided themselves in different groups and started cleaning work in designated zones of the campus.
