NSS organized their Annual Blood Donation Camp of at the Old Badminton Court of Technology Students Gymkhana on March 18 , 2017 in partnership with Kharagpur Voluntary Blood Donors Organization.   In the event 149 units of blood were collected by the Blood Bank of Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital .   The event would not have been possible without active help and participation of Technology Students Gymkhana – Professor Somesh Kumar, President, TSG and Mr Mandal and Sudheer, Sports Officers, TSG, in particular – and the Continuing Education Program of IIT Kharagpur.   Thanks are also due to the donors for their support in making the event a success. NSS wants to thank the IIT Kharagpur community for participating wholeheartedly in the TSG-NSS Blood Donation Camp of November 19, 2016 at the Old Badminton Court of Technology Students Gymkhana.  In the event 58 units of blood were collected by Ashok Laboratory Centre for Transfusion Medicine and Clinical Research, Kolkata.  The event was facilitated by Blood Connect, Kolkata.  The camp would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Ayush Gurjar, G-Sec, Sports and Games, Technology Students Gymkhana of IIT Kharagpur, in particular, and others including Spandana Sinna, also a G-Sec (S&G) of TSG and volunteers of NSS, several NSS officials and staff.

[  Blood Donation in Emergency :  Registration Form Link  ] [  Updated with more pictures  ] The blood donation camp was organized on Saturday, 16th March, at BC Roy Technology Hospital, with the help of Sub Division Hospital, Kharagpur. It began at around 10 am and continued up to 1 pm, with a steady stream of donors throughout. The corridor of the first floor of the hospital was abuzz with young KGPians chatting with each other, happy to be able to play their part in lending a helping hand to people in the region. One of the rooms was utilized for a thorough medical check-up of potential donors, as well as the donation itself, while another there was another hall was where donors could lie down and recuperate for a while before they leave venue. NSS, IIT Kharagpur has received a request from IIT Employees' Union for May Day blood donation. It will be held in Staff Club during 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM as given in the letter. This is the last blood donation camp organized in the campus in this semester; the last opportunity for those who missed out in earlier occasions. The demand for blood increases as the temperature soars. Thus, it is more needed now. NSS team invites the campus community to come forward and make the effort all success.

The mood was festive. India winning ICC One Day Cricket World Cup was an added factor. At times the queue were 25 persons long. People waited patiently for their turn. Being rejected due to low BP made many befriend glucose water, banana, cake, biscuit to savage the situation, if possible. None was ready to give up. We started at 10 AM. Even at 2:30 PM many were waiting. They had to leave reluctantly as the blood bank people gave up! They had reached their capacity. The count was 106 at that time, 6 more than what they were prepared. We had informal chats with donors when they were resting after donation. One M.Tech. student proposed to make it an half-yearly event. Later, the blood bank doctor congratulated us on selection of this month. In April, they do have a scarcity. They requested us to arrange one in every April. All the blood bank staffs, specially Dr. Jhuma Mukhopadhyaya of Sub Division Hospital made the entire exercise look easy.
