Annual Blood Donation Camp

NSS, IIT Kharagpur successfully organized the Annual Blood Donation Camp in association with Kharagpur Blood Donors' Organization on April 5, 2014. The blood bank of NRS Medical College and Hospitals collected around 125 Units blood. Most of the donors were the NSS Volunteers, and faculty members of the institute. The B C Roy Technology Hospitals facilitated the NSS to conduct it smoothly. The PMO, Dr. B Mishra helped our Program officers to contact with KVBDO and Dr. S Dheebar and Dr. A Ghosh and Chief Nurse extended their supports throughout the day. The camp started at 11:00 AM in the morning and continued till 3:30 PM. Eight NSS volunteers from central team and fifteen volunteers from Unit 11 worked together for the mission. Volunteers were taking care of registration desk, providing food packets with beverage to the donors after donating blood. The blood donation camp will be organized at B C Roy Technology Hospital , IIT Kharagpur, in association with Kharagpur Blood Donors' Organization. We are requesting the interested persons from our IIT Campus community for active participation and donation of the blood.   A few drops of your Blood can help a life to bloom. The Preparation

For most of our team members, it is completely a new world of experience to work on socially relevant projects undertaken by NSS, IIT Kharagpur. We know that our enthusiasm, zeal, desire to put us at the service of the less fortunate need to be supplemented by adequate preparation. Besides planning and execution of the plan, we need to keep in mind the ground reality, social stratification and take the community along with us - not to make them feel that something is thrust upon them. It needs patience, it needs perseverance, a purity of purpose, and a love for the community the way they are - encouraging them for the good practices they follow and working with them on issues where they can do better and where we can contribute humbly. Thalassemia Detection Camp

NSS, IIT Kharagpur organized a Thalssemia detection camp at Talbagicha High School on March 01, 2014 where experts from Midnapore Medical College and Saptarshi Vivekananda Society ( Link ) came. First, a briefing was done on why this test is needed. Leaflet that explains it with graphics were distributed. To motivate students the name of sportsman like Pete Sampras, Zinedine Zidane were cited who are Thalassemia career but do not face issue for the detection. Country like Cyprus is Thalassemia-free today because it is mandatory to get the detection done before marriage. There was initial inhibition among high school students as blood was to be collected from them for the test. Previous week a sensitization camp was done and guardians were told. An NSS, IIT Kharagpur volunteer, Sri Aynanta Das was the first to offer himself under the needle! And then there was steady flow.
