Teacher's Day 2015 at Nachna Village
NSS IIT Kharagpur Unit 7 organized a bicycle distribution at Nachna village, about 6 KM from IIT Kharagpur campus, on Teacher's Day, Sept. 05, 2015. Twenty bicycles were given to NSS by Patel Hall authorities recently, that have been repaired and were readied for distribution amongst high school students of Nachna, Gangadharpur and Debigeria villages by the NSS team.
This was the day when the NSS team started ground work on soya cultivation on a small patch of land adjacent to the Shisu Shiksha Kendra of the Nachna village hoping to achieve a sustained improvement in the nutrition level of school kids.
Identification of high school going students from the villages as beneficiaries involved coordination with village community. We worked with village panchayet members, school teachers and village seniors and the whole activity was carried out smoothly with everybody's support.
Nachna village has almost 100% Scheduled Tribe population. Each family is to struggle hard for livelihood. Both parents need to work for a living and are not in a position to help children in education. We noted the earnest appeal of the senior village school teacher who is nearing retirement, to these parents who gathered for the occasion. "Niyomito school e pathano main, ar barite 'porte bos' kathata bala" (Sending children to school regularly is the main thing and telling them to sit for study at home). The teacher in early days of her teaching career used translators to communicate with tribal kids for the language barrier she had and, took classes under tree as there was no school building.
Today was the auspicious Jamnashtami for which holiday was declared in all schools. Still the village school teachers came to school and we had a memorable Teacher's Day today, together.
We present few videos first and then few photographs of this activity. A playlist of the videos can be accessed from here (Link).
