Thalassemia Awareness Workshop at Hiradihi-Kesiasole Madhyamik Siksha Kendra

Volunteers of Unit 11 of NSS IIT Kharagpur organized a workshop at Hiradihi-Kesiasole Madhyamik Shiksha Kendra (MSK) on March 5, 2016 in collaboration with Thalassemia Muktir Angikar, an NGO based in Madinipur to spread awareness on Thalassemia among the MSK students. Dr Amalkanti Pande, Mr Gopal Sinha, Mr Bubai Das and Mr Maniklal Saha, of Thalassemia Muktir Angikar made a cogent presentation on the genetic underpinning of the disease and emphasized upon the importance of premarital blood testing in preventing thalassemia from developing in the subsequent generations. Approximately sixty students of Hiradihi-Kesiasole MSK attended the program along with their teachers. A quiz was also organized for participating MSK students and successful respondents were awarded with token prizes.
