National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Kharagpur

NSS, IIT Kharagpur organized a 5 KM rally yesterday to celebrate National Youth Day. This is held every year on 12th January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. The rally had images and inspiring quotes of Vivekananda that motivates youth. About 800 students participated in the rally. Most of them are UG 1st year students. The initial shyness melted in confident sloganeering that marked the resolve to contribute in national development. A glimpse of the walk is uploaded as youtube video by one of the participants who took the walk along with students (  Link ). There were participation from Vivekananda Study Circle members and students of NSO Health and Fitness in the rally. Here are some photographs from the rally.

Here are few pictures of camp activities. This is in continuation of pictures posted in this blog in our earlier post titled "Annual Camp : Part I" ( Link ). The first three pictures of this post is followed by a series, describing activities of campers on 03rd December. That day in the first session, March Past was presented by every group for which they rehearsed in the preceding evenings. In the second session, a rally was carried out where "World Disability Day" was the main theme. We had a 1992 alumnus present in annual camp in this session. He was on his way to participate Pan IIT meet at Kolkata ( Link ) and was pleased to see the work carried out by young IITians. We discussed if from discourses in Pan IIT meet can emerge outcome based goals where villages around IIT Kharagpur within 5 KM radius, first betters the national average in development indices like infant mortality, mother-child health, school drop out etc. and then target becoming the best ...

Here is a glimpse of the month as it was for Kashijora Village Unit (Unit 13) since the academic session began in third week of July at IIT Kharagpur. Besides regular activity of engaging with village primary school students, the unit carried out a drawing competition to encourage talents among village kids, a special on games like Kho-Kho and Kabadi, a colourful awareness rally with posters and slogans where village school kids and young students of IIT Kharagpur walked together. The theme of the rally was health and hygiene. The posters and slogans depicted the importance of administering polio drops, the need for abstaining from intake of alcohol, smoking, consuming tobacco and the issue of prevention of spread of mosquito related diseases by the simple use of a mosquito net.
