National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Kharagpur

NSS, IIT Kharagpur extends warm welcome to all new students in the campus. We eagerly look forward to work with new batch of NSS volunteers who are joining the NSS team. We had our Advisory Committee Meeting at Board Room on July 18, 2012 chaired by our Director. We had in the meeting among others, the Regional Head of NSS from Kolkata; Secretary of Midnapur Welfare Society; Dean, Undergraduate Studies; Dean, Student Affairs; Assistant Registrar, Accounts; Coordinator, Extra Academic Activity; NSS student members and Program Officers. The following students were member of NSS, IIT Kharagpur central team. Their term ended in April, 2012 and a new student team has taken over. They were not assigned to any specific village / slum but traveled various units to cover MGNREGA awarness camp in one village to caste certificate camp in other or the 150th birth anniversary of Vivekananda in the third etc. Besides, they published NSS Newsletter, maintained NSS website and participated other central activities. Then I started a new study center at Congress Office outside IIT campus. I and Ishan also taught children of cleaning staffs of MMM Hall in my room. In the second half of the 26th January, 2012 one unit of NSS, IIT Kharagpur and NSS Coordinator was invited in the Annual Sports function of a local High School situated in a slum area, serving mostly the underprivileged. A report, prepared by student group leader on the event, follows. It's a grand event celebrated on the eve of REPUBLIC DAY to see hundred's of children playing. The Chattisgarh high school of  AYMA conducted many exciting events for the student's conducting a two day sports meet. Children's of all age participated enthusiastically bringing out their inner talents and energy. The school on it's first day       (25-01-2012) conducted events like kabaddi, kho-kho etc... for it's higher class children. Many athletic events like long jump, high jump, shot put etc.. are also conducted. The students are filled with joy and happiness to play with their friend's.
