Roadwork at Purba Shikarpari (units 9 and 12), Library area of Banpatna (unit 11) and Dakshin Banpatna (units 10, 13, 14 and 15) should have gotten a tremendous boost with the delivery of an additional 6 wheel barrows although the impact was somewhat nullified by an unusual obsession of several units (including unit 1 working at Seva Dal and units 2 and 4 working at Raghunathpur) with street play (
nukkad) rehearsal.
The afternoon session was also extremely productive except for the sad back-to-back losses of NSS cricket team at the hands of the youth's team of Khelar-Banpatna. The first one of the two 8-over matches was basically a wash out with the loosing team managing a paltry 43 runs and the victors chasing the total at the cost of only 2 wickets with countless overs to spare. Performance of NSS in the second one was better - only very slightly - despite the valiant wicket keeping by Professor Dibakar Dhara captured in several professional grade photographs taken by Professor BM Manoj, one of which is shared in this post. In this match Khelar amassed 83 batting first and the chasers folded up at 70. Supporters of the loosing outfit thought Khelar only won because they had several bowlers on their team with suspect bowling action.
Forty-four villagers received treatment and medicines at the medical camp at Khelar Panchayat office premises, which was organized by NSS in collaboration with St John Ambulance Brigade, Kharagpur and School of Medical Science and Technology of IIT Kharagpur. More than 100 villagers of Nachna-Ayodhyagarh area received clothes and toys collected earlier by NSS volunteers from IIT campus. St John Ambulance Brigade also made a presentation on substance abuse that was extremely well received by an audience of NSS volunteers and Khelar area youth.
