Health Camp at Pariapara Village
Thanks to the initiative of Pariapara Village Unit of NSS, IIT Kharagpur a health check-up camp was organized at village primary school on 07.4.2012. Dr. B. Mishra, P.M.O., B C Roy Hospital, IIT Kharagpur (BCRTH) and Prof. P. K. Dutta, Head, School of Medical Science & Technology, IIT Kharapur (SMST) extended their full support. We had Dr. B. Sahoo (BCRTH), Dr. D. Gupta (BCRTH), Dr. Ramakanteswara Rao (SMST), Dr. Vishuumar H. S. (SMST), Dr. Sankar S. (SMST), Dr. Debasish Mirbahar (Eye specialist), Mr. Amitav Dey (Assistant, BCRTH) in the camp serving the villagers. The primary school teachers and local community leaders provided necessary support. Our sincere thanks and warm regards to all.
Our initial target was to serve the school children. We had fifty-five of them turning up and availing the facility. The local community leaders requested to extend the service to few elderly people of the village who are very poor and also have mobility problem. We are happy that we could serve ten of them. In addition, fifteen parents who accompanied their children were also served.
A make shift pharmacy was opened in the school. We purchased medicine from BCRTH pharmacy at a subsidized rate for this occasion. These were: Calpol, Mebex, Becosules, Famocid, Zedex-p, Ascril-c, Zengat eye drop, Tear drop, Aristozyme, Zental, Odal, Noworm, Dexorange, Dilosyn, etc. A large amount of medicine was donated by Dr. M. Chaudhury of BCRTH and collected from campus community. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Chaudhury and the larger campus community. The excess medicine was returned in full to BCRTH. The major deficiencies among the village children were goitre, worm, stomach and liver problem and malnutrition.
The NSS students had a great experience. Right from registration desk to delivery of small snacks to all children attending the camp (after delivery of medicine) they enthusiastically participated in all. We had there the school teacher of Gholgharia village primary school (about 5 KM from Pariapara) where another NSS unit works. He was in all praise about various activities of that NSS unit, from horticulture (Link) to various competitions arranged by that unit. However, he wished if one such health camp can be held in his school too.
Later in the day, as a part of scheduled meeting among NSS, IIT Kharagpur Coordinator, State representative of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (NSS unit in Balarampur village serves one unit of this trust working there) and a visiting German student working as intern at the Kasturba Trust, such a service of NSS, IIT Kharagpur was requested in Balarampur village centre too. We hope to carry on with the start we made in this 7th April camp.

It is the right direction.
Only we have to keep going and collect strength at every square & crossings.
Of course, the destination is far and beyond but one step forward will take us nearer to that.
